Division of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
Recently, Mie Prefecture has been promoting the “Mie Medical Valley Project” aiming at the creation and accumulation of health, welfare and environmental industry information and the fostering of human resources. That is specialists who can contribute to the development of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics or high-end functional food are requested.
Our Division of Clinical Pharmacy is the basis of educating specialists who can contribute to the development of local industry and we are also proud that a specialist and a pharmacist with a pharmacist license can study in our graduate school while continuing their jobs.
Meanwhile in the pharmaceutical industry, in order to utilize existing drugs more effectively, the trend of drug fostering and evolution (DFE) including the designing and promoting adaption of new medicinal forms is increasing in addition to new drug discoveries and development which are epoch-making in the creation of new drugs. Close collaboration between clinicians and pharmaceutical researchers has already shown some results and the importance of DFE is increasing as it is accompanied by a progressively aging society. DFE development, which leads to the promotion of community industries, requires pharmaceutical researchers with an accumulation of clinical experience and ample knowledge of medical chemistry.
Therefore out Division of Clinical Pharmacy fosters pharmaceutical researchers and creates and improves drugs in cooperation with the “Center for Innovative Pharmaceuticals” in our University.
This has been establish as a Mie prefectural-industrial-academic-government project the “Mie Life Innovation Comprehensive Special Zones” and is designated by the government as a “Regional Comprehensive Special Zone.
Now our University is developing joint research with medical facilities and pharmacy enterprises. Moreover, we are coping with “Mie Medical Valley Project” aiming to be the local center to support a community with vitality and to promo citizens’ health and welfare.
High quality welfare and medicines are expected in such areas as cancer treatments or dementia treatments which will address the modern aging conditions. New contributions to healthcare from the viewpoint of pharmacy such as pathology analysis and pharmacology exploration are required.
To deal with the condition above, we aim to foster such superior specialists who can demonstrate leadership in the healthcare field, solve complex problems or topics, direct younger pharmacists and students in the clinical field, work educating and researching with high professional knowledge and technology and can deal with new drugs in the future with adequate knowledge and technology.

We engage in pioneering research and technology with a mind toward recent social demands, extremely urgent cancers, diagnosis and treatment of geriatric diseases concerning regulation of medicinal properties based on developing and controlling metabolism as well as pharmacotherapy based on pathological analysis and diagnosis. Through these studies, graduate students acquire the latest highly specialized knowledge of individualized and economically efficient medicine to deal with a super-aging society. They also obtain effective and efficient ability to develop medicines by attending academic conferences and lecture meetings to report and discuss the results of their research.

A number of new drugs have been developed remarkably, which has contributed to a tremendous improvement in results of medical treatment.
We aim to nurture human resources so as to research the most appropriate treatment for patients, make use of their expert knowledge on designing administration based on a hard look at an aging society with fewer children and take a leading role in the clinical field.

It is one of the important missions of pharmacological studies to analyze and develop potential ingredients for medicines. Our students systematically study to research and develop new medicines, for example, exploring effective ingredients of medicines for various diseases and discovering new functions of existing medicines. Moreover, it is also important to develop functional food to prevent the onset of a disease and they aggressively grapple with investigating new physiologically active substances.

We study and analyze from various angles to understand the relation between diseases and society or environment. Especially in the current superannuated society, the prevention and treatment for cancers and dementia are greatly expected. To pursue the solution for these problems, we explore environmental factors of preventive medicine and pharmacotherapy by means of experimental and epidemiological methodologies focusing on development of biomarkers to prevent cancers and normalization of pharmacotherapy for dementia and other mental disorders.
